    Gandan Monastery

    In the morning enjoy a tour of the city with visit to the Choijin Lama Temple and the impressive Buddhist Gandan Monastery in the evening you will have the unique opportunity to watch traditional Mongolian music performances at your own expenses. On request, you can opt for alternative lodging in a local yurt in the beautiful landscape of the Mongolian Alps (supplement of € 35/ $ 40, please let us know upon booking). This is a rare experience and a dream come true for nature lovers.

    Mongolian horsemanship

    After breakfast you will visit and an excursion to a mountainous area with stunning rock formations, known as the Mongolian Alps (about 90 minutes east of Ulan Bator). Along the way, an open-air railroad museum puts the Mongolian railway in context. A picnic lunch in a yurt is followed by a demonstration of Mongolian horsemanship and the traditional wrestling match.

    Bid farewell to the Mongolian steppes as the train rolls on through the valley of Selenga, the largest river of Mongolia. In Ulan Ude your train joins the main route of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Here you can stroll through the city streets or join the guided tour of the city.

    The entire day is dedicated to Lake Baikal. Before noon you will arrive at the old station of Port Baikal, located directly on the shore. During two long photo stops on the ancient tracks running parallel to the shore you will have the chance to capture the beauty of the lake on film and explore the wonderful scenery. Take a moment to have a dip in the lake or visit a picturesque Baikal village. You will also enjoy a short boat ride on the lake. If the night is warm, your dinner will be served as a picnic on the shores of the spectacular lake before re-boarding the train.

    City Tour Of Irkutsk

    In the morning you will check into a centrally located standard hotel in Irkutsk. You can safely leave your large baggage on the train. A tour of the city includes the lively market hall, the drama theatre and a rather spectacular oddity, a newly erected statue of the Tsar. The afternoon features an excursion to an open-air museum displaying Siberian life in the old days.

    Today is at leisure onboard the train as it crosses the wide Yenisei River and rolls on through Siberia. The train’s chefs once again demonstrate their skills as they serve the guests Russian specialties in a “tsar’s feast”. A caviar and vodka tasting accompanied by clever toasts offers you a very enjoyable opportunity to combine pleasure and Russian hospitality. Enjoy scenic views as the train passes by villages with their typical wooden houses and through birch forests set against a background of impressive mountainscapes and, hopefully, ample sunshine.

    Welcome to Novosibirsk, the heart of Siberia and be greeted in the traditional Russian fashion with bread and salt. During a short city tour, you will experience the most Soviet of all cities during your journey. View the mighty Ob River before boarding the train.

    Yekaterinburg Cathedral

    The train stops around noon in Yekaterinburg, the historical capital of the Urals. The city is remembered as the place where the Russian tsar Nicholas II and his family were murdered in 1918. During a brief city tour you will see the Cathedral of the Savior on the Spilled Blood, which was built in 2003 in commemoration of that tragic historic event, and the city centre which was so attractively restored in 2009. From now on your train is on European ground.

    Kul Sharif Mosque in the Kazan Kremlin

    In the morning you will arrive in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. Embark on a tour of the Kazan Kremlin (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage) with its wonderful panoramic view over the Volga, where you learn about the turbulent history of the relationship between the Tartars, the Cossacks, and the Russians. The evening offers you one last chance to be pampered in the onboard restaurant.

    Before noon you arrive in Moscow, Russia’s capital and one of the world’s richest and most dynamic cities. After the long rail journey, check in to your hotel which offers comfort and convenience. One of the stops of your sightseeing tour is the Kremlin with its glorious cathedrals. You can also check out the interiors of some of the buildings. After dinner you go on a magical evening trip through the city. This special tour includes a stop at Red Square as well as a subway ride with a visit of two beautiful old stations.

    After breakfast at your hotel you go on a guided tour of Moscow to see the reconstructed Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Lomonossov University, the New Virgin Monastery, and Red Square to view the colourful St. Basil’s Cathedral (exterior view), but also the notorious former KGB headquarters and the White House. Thereafter bid your fantastic journey farewell before you transfer to the airport for your flight home.
