    Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch

Upon arrival, meet and greet by our local guide. Head to Noboribetsu, known for its natural hot springs. Visit Jigokudani (Hell Valley) a volcanic crater with steam rises from the mountains, hot water bubbles up from the geyser and yellowy gray volcanic gas seeps from the surface of the rocks. This makes the whole place smell strongly of sulfur, and gives it an image like that of hell. The valley is a 450-meter-diameter mouth of a volcano, which produces 3,000 liters of hot water per minute. Interestingly stone demon statues big and small decorate the city center. Following, drive to Showa-shinzan or Mt Showa meaning new mountain basically a volcanic lava dome formed after several earthquakes. Visit the Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch to see the standing up brown bears. There are about 100 bears and you may photograph or buy some fruits to feed them. In the evening enjoy a therapeutic hot spring bath at the onsen.

After breakfast, proceed to Hakodate; Hokkaido’s third largest city and at the southern tip. Begin the day by going marketing with the locals at the bustling Hakodate Asaichi (Morning Market), filled with an array of delectable fresh seafood, live crabs, shellfish, vegetables, fruit, sweets and local produce. Next, visit the Fort Goryokaku which is a massive, star shaped, Western style citadel, which was built in the last years of the Edo Period. Over one thousand cherry trees were planted along its moats, making it one of Hokkaido's best cherry blossom spots too. Following that, visit the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, a row of red brick warehouses built more than a century ago now house shops, restaurants and cafes. In the evening, proceed to ascent Mt Hakodate by ropeway for a spectacular night view of Hakodate, and it is so stunningly beautiful that it has been honored as one of Japan’s three great night view sites, receiving the highest rating of three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan.

Next, drop by at Meisui Fureai Park where you can see the bubbling spring water from the source, known as "100 Most Famous Mineral Waters" in Japan and one of Japan's top 100 mineral waters. In the park you can see a replica of the propeller driven biplane called 'Hokkai Ichigo' which, in 1926, was the first plane to land at Chitose and for which the airport was built. Next visit the Nikka Whisky Distillery, one of Japan's top whisky makers recognized to rank among the world's best single malt whiskies and have won numerous awards. The company was founded by Taketsuru Masataka, known as the father of Japanese whisky, who studied whisky making techniques for several years in Scotland before bringing the trade to Japan. In the afternoon, take a stop at the evocative Otaru Canal where charming century old stone warehouses line both sides of the canal. The genteel theme continues at Otaru Music Box Museum, where whimsical displays of beautifully crafted music boxes will delight.
